Render is seeking a Systems Administrator with experience in Windows and Linux system administration, cybersecurity practices, and virtualization technologies. This position supports Multiple Security Levels (MSL) and non-MLS systems within Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) programs and requires a combination of system administration, security, and IT infrastructure management to ensure the reliability, security, and compliance of mission-critical systems in a DoD environment. This is an on-site position supporting work in St. Inigoes, Maryland.

Key Responsibilities

System Administration & Management

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux operating systems across various platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues to minimize system downtime.
  • Perform system backups and disaster recovery operations to ensure data integrity.
  • Manage system baselines, images, and deployment processes for fielded components.
  • Maintain detailed hardware and software inventory for efficient system tracking.
  • Configure and manage domain integration, Organizational Units (OUs), and group policies.
  • Deploy and maintain syslog servers for centralized logging, monitoring, and event analysis.

Virtualization & Cloud Technologies

  • Install, configure, and manage VMware ESXi hosts, vSphere environments, and vCenter Server.
  • Support VM provisioning, performance tuning, and resource allocation for virtualized environments.
  • Troubleshoot VMware infrastructure issues, including networking, storage, and host configurations.
  • Assist in managing backup and disaster recovery solutions for VMware environments.
  • Support IT teams in integrating virtualization with other enterprise technologies.
  • Set up and manage Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions for improved accessibility and security.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Conduct vulnerability scans using tools like ACAS and Nessus to identify system weaknesses.
  • Implement patch management processes, ensuring timely updates and compliance.
  • Apply security hardening techniques based on Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Ensure adherence to DoD cybersecurity policies, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate security documentation to support audits and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of four years of experience in Windows and Linux system administration.
  • Strong knowledge of registry management, group policy, and system configurations for Windows OS.
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning and security patch management (e.g., ACAS, Nessus).
  • Familiarity with VMware networking and storage architecture.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Security and Clearance

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Active DoD 8570 Certification (e.g., Security+ or equivalent).

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience) is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher.
  • Experience supporting DoD IT programs and understanding defense-specific security requirements.
  • Additional cybersecurity certifications (CISSP, CompTIA Network+) are a plus.
  • Experience with cloud-based VMware solutions (e.g., Azure VMware Solution, AWS VMware Cloud).
  • Hands-on experience with vCenter, vMotion, HA, and DRS.
  • Familiarity with virtual networking (vSwitches, VLANs, etc.).
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., PowerCLI, Ansible, vRealize Orchestrator).
  • Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, SRM).
  • Experience with enterprise storage systems, including NAS (Network Attached Storage) and SAN (Storage Area Networks).

This position has an annual salary range of $65,000 to $120,000 based on annualized USD. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience and education and in consideration of internal pay equality.
